What is the best technique. The lake i fish has been drawn down and i really dont wont to put my trotline out so i will be pole fishing till the lake comes back up.I'm thinking of baiting a hole with some sweet feed. What is the best bait and what kind of rigging do you use. This past week i used cut minnows and done alright and i tried to use chicken liver but it likes to come off the hook to easy.I have been tying a knot so that it leaves a loop in the line.Doing this puts my hook about 8-10 inches above my weight so when it hits the bottom and i get the line tight the hook should be off the bottom. An old man told me that he doesnt use weight,he puts the liver on and drops the line straight down into the hole and when it hits bottom he reels it back up a little bit to get it off the bottom

I don't do much lake fishing, mostly river fishing for me. And I do more trotlining than pole fishing, but bream or shad should be your best bet. Or catalpa worms if you can get your hands on any. I usually tie a swivel then off it a short line for my hook and a longer line for my weight. I've heard the sweet feed trick works good, but I have never tried it because it wouldn't work in a flowing river.
